200 Club of Sussex County
Scholarship Criteria
The 200 Club of Sussex County is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to the dependents of law enforcement officers, firefighters, members of emergency medical first aid squads and members of emergency management, working (whether on a volunteer or paid basis) in Sussex County, New Jersey and New Jersey State Police, residing or working in Sussex County (“Public Safety Personnel”). Part of the Club’s mission is to provide scholarships to dependent children of Public Safety Personnel as well as Sussex County residents who are pursuing college degrees in law enforcement or public safety.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Scholarships will be awarded in late spring of each school year (April-May). Applicants will be judged on the basis of academic performance, community service, extracurricular activities, citizenship and financial need.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Applications are limited to high school seniors or a currently enrolled college student meeting at least one of the following criteria:
A. The applicant's parent is actively serving with a Sussex County Police Department, other law enforcement agency, Fire Department, Emergency Medical/Rescue Services or a member of Emergency Management or the New Jersey State Police.
B. The applicant's parent retired from one of the above public safety agencies and has satisfied the agency's retirement requirements.
C. The applicant is an active member of one of these departments in a voluntary capacity.
D. The applicant resides in Sussex County and their parent is actively serving with a federal or state law enforcement agency.
E. The applicant is a Sussex County resident who is pursuing a college degree in law enforcement or public safety.
2. If both parents of an applicant are deceased, then the applicant must be less than twenty-one years of age.
3. Children of voting members of The 200 Club are not eligible for The 200 Club Scholarship.
4. Children of personnel working in clerical or other non-related public safety duties are not eligible.
5. The applicant must be a bona fide member of a high school graduating class for the current academic year, or a currently enrolled college student who meets the criteria.
6. An applicant who is a high school senior must be eligible to receive a high school diploma prior to June of the applicable school year.
7. The applicant must be a bona fide student in any private, parochial or public school or college located in or out of Sussex County who meets the criteria.
8. The student must have a definite plan to pursue a post-high school program of education or training on a full time basis.
9. The applicant must have exhibited good citizenship traits and be of sound moral character.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE 200 CLUB OF SUSSEX COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE NO LATER THAN THE FIRST MONDAY IN APRIL. NO APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED AFTER THIS DATE EACH YEAR..
